Godot: The open source game engine - reddit.
I teach 3D game development in high school and I'm really interested in moving towards FOSS for my game engine. Among other concerns, I'm having trouble finding impressive 3D projects made with Godot. Can anyone shoot me a link to gameplay videos of the best looking and most elaborate 3D games made with Godot?
I’m strictly asking about the performance of 3D games in each of the engines. I want to make a pretty looking 3D game with the skills I’ve been gaining in 3D modeling, but I prefer Godot to Unity. I feel that Godot is overall much cleaner and organized then unity which makes me typically develop games in Godot but I’ve also used Unity a fair amount. The one thing I know Godot lacks in.
Will everyday-laptops be compatible with games made by Godot 3.0.0? If they have a Opengl ES 3 driver (Open GL 3.3) yes it's compatible but not very usable on integrated GPU. Godot 3.0 is much more demanding than Godot 2.0 on 3D, even on the demos ! The only integrated GPUs who work decently are the last generation (Intel skylake). Ideally you.
The 3D side isn't terrible, you can definitely make a game with it. And the Better Collada plugin for Blender makes the workflow between Blender and Godot pretty nice. However the 3D isn't as polished as the 2D, in my opinion. Some of the stuff like the 3D particles don't really work as well as the 2D particles. And it feels like some stuff is missing from 3D, such as the whole collision layer.

Given that you can target both desktops and consoles with the same code base in other engines, the lack of support for consoles in Godot is pretty hard to get past if targeting desktops for a game. But asking for an open-source engine to target consoles is probably too much to ask. But it would be interesting to see some legacy consoles targeted even if current ones cannot be.

Godot is a free and open source engine that you can download to make your own games. The engine is made and maintained by a group of developers from around the world. However, it started inside the walls of OKAM Studios, a game developer from Argentina. The engine supports both 2D and 3D games, and that is a good thing since it means you are not limited to any specific kind of game.
